Understanding Ofsted Inspection Patterns with Data

2 min read by Early Tree Team

Every early years setting knows that Ofsted inspection is coming eventually. But beyond "be prepared" and "know your policies," what can you actually do to understand what to expect?

That's where Inspector Who comes in.

Inspector Who is now live

We're excited to announce that Inspector Who launched in September 2025. After months of development and data gathering, our Ofsted inspection intelligence platform is now available to all early years settings.

What Inspector Who does

Inspector Who takes publicly available Ofsted inspection data and makes it searchable, trackable, and analysable. You can:

  • Search inspection reports by setting name, URN, location, or keywords
  • View inspector profiles including their inspection history and patterns
  • Follow inspectors and settings to get notified of new inspections
  • Explore trends across regions, time periods, and provider types

The value of patterns

Individual inspection reports tell you about one setting at one point in time. But patterns across many inspections tell you much more:

  • Which areas are inspectors focusing on right now?
  • How do inspection outcomes vary by region?
  • What do settings that improve their ratings have in common?
  • How frequently are inspectors active in your area?

We're not suggesting you can "game" an inspection. But understanding the broader context helps you focus your preparation on what matters most.

Data, not opinions

Inspector Who is built on public Ofsted data. We don't add editorials or conjecture. We present the data clearly and let you draw your own conclusions.

We're also careful to note that our analytics are derived insights, not official Ofsted statistics. The patterns we identify are based on our analysis of public reports.

Try it yourself
